Earlier this year law enforcement authorities were called to the scene of a car accident in Las Vegas that resulted in multiple injuries. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (“LVMP”) were called just after 1pm to provide assistance at the crash site at the intersection of North Grand Canyon Drive and Grand Teton Drive. According to authorities the collision, which is still under investigation, caused moderate disruptions to traffic throughout the local area. First responders tended to the injured on-site and transported any victims to local medical facilities for further treatment.
Nevada Car Accident Injuries
Car accidents throughout the state of Nevada claim the lives of nearly 300 victims annually. Thousands more accident victims suffer significant injuries that require ongoing medical treatment and oftentimes hospital stays, even though there are many medical treatment options available. Despite several measures that Nevada drivers can take to protect themselves on the roadways, innocent drivers and passengers are hurt due to poor decision-making and careless behaviors of other motorists. Some of the most common car accident injuries include:
- Whiplash
- Scrapes, cuts, and bruises
- Head injuries
- Broken bones
- Internal bleeding
- Back and/or knee injuries
- Post traumatic stress disorder
Damages Available
Under Nevada law, car accident victims may recover damages from an at-fault party if their actions were reckless or negligent. This ability to seek monetary compensation applies to both drivers and passengers involved in a Nevada car crash. If someone was injured in a Nevada collision, he or she may be entitled to compensation for the following:
- Medical expenses;
- Loss of past wages;
- Loss of future earning capacity;
- Costs for physical and/or occupational therapy;
- Pain and suffering; and
- Court costs and fees.
Statistically, Las Vegas has some of America’s most dangerous drivers. Allstate Insurance recently reported that drivers in the city are 21% more likely to be involved in a car accident than the national average of their counterparts.
Common Causes of Nevada Car Accidents
While outside factors such as weather, poorly maintained roadways, and bad lighting can cause car crashes in most incidents the culprit is driver error. The most common causes of collisions in Clark County include:
- Failing to yield the right of way;
- Following vehicles too closely;
- Driving above the speed limit;
- Distracted driving;
- Failing to properly follow traffic rules;
- Neglecting to stay within the lanes; and
- Driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
Many times the cause of a car crash is not easily or immediately known. In such a scenario a skilled personal injury attorney will thoroughly investigate the factors surrounding the crash.
