In 2012 alone, there were an estimated 4,515 recreational-boating accidents that involved 651 deaths, 3,000 injuries, and approximately $38 million in property damage. The top five contributing factors in boat accidents are the following:
Nearly eight million people visit part of the 1.5 million acres that make up Lake Mead National Recreation Area—most of which is covered in water. Lake Mead offers recreation to those wanting to go boating, jet-skiing, water skiing, fishing, swimming, scuba diving, and many other water sports.
And although the National Parks Service takes great steps to ensure the safety of its visitors, it cannot ensure that all its visitors follow the rules or act reasonably, and unfortunately, it is possible to fall victim to another’s negligence.
The same laws that apply to the operators of motor vehicles apply to the operators of watercraft, and often there is insurance available to compensate you for your injuries and damages, whether they result from grounding a vessel, collisions between watercraft, propellor accidents, or any other boating-related accidents.
