Crash Statistics in Nevada
When people get behind the wheel to travel for work or fun, they do not plan to get into a car accident. This is no different for those who are traveling in and about Las Vegas and the greater Nevada area. Las Vegas sits in Clark County, where more than 2.2 million people are located and more than 1.6 vehicles are registered. It seems to not be a matter of “if” a car accident will occur, but rather “when” it will happen. While only 650,000 people live and reside in the city of Las Vegas, over 40 million people visited the city just in 2019 alone. Many of these visitors traveled by car, taxi, rideshare, or bus.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) data, which latest data is from 2010 for the state, there were 51,664 reported vehicle accidents. Of those crashes, 32,754 caused property damage, and 18,675 caused injuries to those involved. 235 accidents were fatal in 2010 when the visitors to Las Vegas totaled approximately 37.3 million.
The three most common factors causing car accidents in Nevada include speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
