As a Las Vegas Personal Injury lawyer team, we’re no stranger to drunk driving cases, but on Halloween those incidents increase exponentially, putting everyone at risk. In fact, Halloween is the second most dangerous night of the year for pedestrians (after New Year’s Day).
According to the group Safe Kids Worldwide, twice as many children are killed while walking on Halloween than on any other day of the year. While this statistic is scary, there are some things we can do to protect those little ones and everyone else.
Halloween Safety Tips for Parents and trick or treaters:
- Always accompany children under 12 (or have another adult accompany them) while trick-or-treating; never let them go out alone;
- Stay on sidewalks instead of the street;
- Only cross the street in designated crosswalks, and follow traffic signals; and
- Walk with a flashlight, reflective tape and/or a glow stick.
No matter how careful you may be, the actions of a careless driver can change all of that.
Halloween Safety Tips for Drivers:
- Drive slowly and be vigilant, on the look out for children;
- Always look for pedestrians before pulling out of your driveway or a parking lot; and
- Remember, you know the laws of the road, children don’t.
