Tomorrow many of us will sit down to a feast surrounded by loved ones and give thanks for all that we have. Given the recent atrocities in Paris and overseas, remembering what this holiday season is all about seems that much more important.
In honor of Thanksgiving we would like to show our attitude of gratitude for you, our readers and clients. We would not be where we are today if it were not for all of you. It is our goal to provide the most outstanding representation, support and guidance of any law firm out there.
When it’s all boiled down, we actually help people and that is what we’re most thankful for; the ability to directly affect the lives of others in a positive, helpful way. Our assistance may not be on a global stage but every little bit helps.
Case in point…
Back in 1940 Charlie Chaplin broke his pantomime silence with his first speaking movie role in The Great Dictator. It was a satirical take on fascism and the Nazis. Extremely controversial at the time, Chaplin’s 75-year-old comedic-drama seems so very poignant as we now take in news of terrorism more often than ever. One of the final scenes of the film, Chaplin’s character gives a powerful speech. We encourage you to listen to it, but here is a takeaway we find appropriate in this day and age.
In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” —not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power—the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure.
Then—in the name of democracy—let us use that power—let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world—a decent world that will give men a chance to work—that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfill that promise. They never will!
Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfill that promise! Let us fight to free the world—to do away with national barriers—to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite!
